Education is the primary arena of social intervention for DBS. Over the past 3 decades, DBS has operated the Deenabandhu (“Friend of the Poor”) Schools to provide quality schooling to those who could not ordinarily afford adequate education. The goal of the schools is to make the slum children competitive with even those who can afford private schools. Through this schooling, DBS has seen great successes in the lives of the students. Many of this generation have progressed from semi-skilled workers to professional levels in computing, accountancy, and technical trades.

For those who have had interruptions in their education, DBS offers an afternoon, non-formal stream of education to bring them up to speed. Through this work, many students who would ordinarily not be able to attend school are able to make up lost time, and eventually enrol in Deenabandhu's formal schooling. At Bareilly, another economically disadvantaged area, DBS also operates a smaller school under similar principles.

For more recent news on DBS's schools, see the annual reports.
